what is the point of a muffler on a mower guys?

is it just an epa thing? i wonder if i truly fixed my mower this time, i wish it was day so i could see the grass and cut it. i think the muffler was blocking the air not totally sure i cant really see whats going on inside the muffler. but whats the fuckin point of it

There is also "back pressure" involved although I have no idea what it means or does, I just know on some engines if you just rip off the muffler it might not burn fuel right or something...

U can run a motor without a muffler but it will def affect running. The muffler is most likely not your problem. Why not buy a goat?

Never heard that.  Been meaning to become a better informed engine guy.

Ran a pump with a honda for a little while.  Tooth rattling.  The racket just puts you in a shit mood after a few hours.  If I put that setup back together I'll silence the hell out of it.
