Wife just had twins!   So life is crazy... No eating, up 90% of the night, stressed out, still working.

Is it pointless to try to work out if there is never a recovery period?  Would it just put too much stress on the body and make things worse?  Maybe just take 3-6 months off and get back with it then?

Thoughts?

God bless you and the family....that is awesome!!

I've never experienced caring for twins so I'm not about to tell you how to do that!  :o

Although, I am a Dad and I understand exactly what you've said.

My opinion (based upon myself) is that if I'm unable to get sufficient rest and I attempt to continue pushing in the gym that my body becomes so depleted that I get sick.

Given the newborns I would just put them above all else for a bit and back off the gym until they settle into a routine, sleep more a night and you're sleeping more at night.

I'd make sure your diet is solid regardless, take your vitamin/minerals, drink plenty of water and just hang on.....you'll get through.  Gym for now can go on backburner status unless you can legitimately make time for it.

We're all a little different so I'm just speaking from my own perspective and how I function on minimal sleep with stress and all that.   In a couple months the kiddos will be more stable and you can get more full-time in the gym.

This universal of "you can always find [enter time frame] for the gym" isn't true....we're all different with different circumstances.  I find that people that say those things don't have any real experience with parenting, family, working, providing for others....those types of responsibilities.

I agree. Folks should enjoy the time they spend bonding with their young children while they can. Before you know it, they are grownup and want little to do with their parents. Well, at least until they are in their twenties anyway.

Thanks guys!   I have 4 kids, all under 4...  So it's hard

If I work out and don't sleep at all that night I feel like shit.  Already have no energy and no energy to even cook so it's all take out.  I know it's bad but I just have to do this for maybe 3-4 more months and I'll get back into it

Trying to get the wife to agree with a night nanny 2x a week, that way I can work out solid and actually get an ounce of sleep that night
you are gay.

I have 4 kids and worked crazy hours. I remember at one point I would wake up 430AM in the morning and drive to work for 4 days then for another consecutive 4 days I would have to start work at 9pm. 8 days in a row of day shift and night shift.

I always worked out. If there's a will there is a way.  Why not do a whole body workout on your day off and another or two on  work days. That will hit your body twice or three times in a week. Start with the biggest body part and work down to the smallest. Pick one or at the max two exercises per body part. Do two work sets per exercise. It's old school but it's effective. You can use different exercises for each work out. It also helps if you work out at home so there's no travel time.

Adjustable dumbbells like power blocks or Iron Master and one of their benches you can do so much at home.

Do something like this.

Power cleans 3 x 3
squats 2 x 8
Lunges 2 x 10

dumbbell bench 2 x 8 (placed before lats so you won't have two pressing movements back to back)

Pull ups 2 x max
Low cable row 2  x 12

Military press 2 x 8
Dumbbell lateral raise 2 x 10

weighted dips 2 x 8
barbell curls 2 x 10

Hanging leg raise 2 x max
weighted crunches 2 x max

standing calf raises 2 x 15

neck work.

With your wife having all these babies make sure she is losing the weight she put on. No sense having a family if you're going to have a fat wife. Make sure she keeps working out.

dont stop working out... you will regret the time off after a while.

3 times a week for 45 mins is nothing major.
