Santa is Coming to Town ... So you better be .....
« on: November 30, 2017, 08:41:07 AM »
In another post Vince ABCD etc mentioned his recent RCA Voyager III purchase which got me thinking about Christmas gifts.

But I are dumb when it comes to what little kids want Santa to bring them this year as well as what the hell teens expect to find under the tree .... so I come to you Getbiggers and ask for advice.

The older farts could care less what they get as long as it ain't handkerchiefs, sox, or underware.

No need for steroid, drug, cookie, nor candy recommendations cause they all have their own connections in that  arena, but all other up to date gift advice would be appreciated.

And here are some gift recommendation I myself can offer to each gift giver on this here GetBig Board .... Recommended according to age category.

Real young kids  (4-6 years)
VR Headsets to battle pre-historic critters ---$30 (Walmart)
VR Headsets to hit a ball with a baseball bat ... $30 (Walmart)
VR Headsets to tour the universe ... Ditto
Remote controlled flying Superman or IronMan ... $15 (Ross)
Piano Mat like the one in the Tom Hanks movie ... ?????
Kid size basketball, football, soccer ball, etc .... About $10
Walkie Talkie, long range ... $15 (Walmart)
Bicycle ACTION camera ... $30 (FRY'S)

I got each of the above all wrapped up except for a piano mat which I am presently looking for.

Pe-Teens (7-12 years)
Here is where I am completely lost but I did manage to purchase a couple of those small Kindle Fires for some family members in that age group as well as some Tai Quan Do (spelling?) memberships.

They all love fighting peacefully and are damn good at it.

Teens ....
They all get Disneyland passes or extended memberships in the gym or athletic club of their choice.

The older family members...
If they smoke (almost no one) they get electronic cigarettes even if they didn't ask Santa.
And most of the others get nothing unless  they enjoy the outdoors and spend a lot of time hiking in the high Sierra.

One of whom will get a new backpack because a real-live bear ran off with his old one when he (my nephew ... not the bear) forgot that he had an unsecured package of  Instant Oatmeal in it.

Those bears up there have amazing noses!

And me? ... I just want my two front teeth!

Any other recommendations will be appreciated.

ZILL, I like your idea but I am exactly like BETHERE's wife and buy stuff throughout the year if I see something I really like.

And when it comes time to wrap it all up .... I realize that I have purchased shit for others that I actually wanted myself as a kid or..... as a grown-up when it comes to the modern technical stuff.

BTW ... Has anyone purchased one  of these "AB STIMULATORS" that I find advertised on all my electronic gear! They sell for about $24 - $30 each.

Another piece of muscle building gear that most likely does nothing but I'll probably buy a couple anyway for one of my fitness crazed family members.

Settle down. You are beginning to out yourself. I get more disappointed by the day.

What did I sign up for? How could I be so naive?

SHIZZO, Same here re "opening wrong gifts"  but I solved that problem sorta....

Here in Vegas most  of the casinos give 4 - 8 gifts each month to entice you into the gambling dens.

I am a sucker for those "free" gifts and always end up with a couple of car-loads of stuff  by Christmas time.

So I wrap them up and put them under the tree and any other place they can fit because there  is a shit-load  of them and on Christmas morning after all the 'real Christmas gifts' have been opened, each of us is allowed to pick one un-named package until each of those casino gifts has been opened.

Pick one ... open it ... keep it or trade it!

The JOY in this is the laughter that spreads throughout the room when each gift is opened .... for instance ... one of the 4 year old twins went crazy with happiness because he got a Taco MAKER and refused to trade it for another gift that someone had no need of.

Some of those free casino gifts are pretty damn good  ... such as ...
Small Blu-Tooth speakers.
Sweat shirts
T-shirts, hats
Food containers
Bottles of brand named alcohol and wine
Taco Makers as seen onTV
Cooking pots and pans.
High quality bath-robes.
Platers and platters.
etc, etc.

In some cases the wrapping paper costs more than the contents ... but the fun is in the opening of this stuff and the possibility of trading it for something better.

And the resulting laughter is the best gift of all !!!

Stunt, I was gonna get you a Rich Piana “5% water-jug” for Christmas. Cool?

PS — I won’t be able to get itt autographed though.

ZIM, Thanks for asking Shizzo to treat me 'nicely' but I like being treated as seen fit by anyone on this Board ad long as no one attempts to treat me at the firing end of a long range rifle.

Been there, done that sort of thing and is kinda did bother me a bit.

Did we actually meet one time? if that answer is "affirmative" I think I know who you are but because you are posting here as "MR ZIM..." I hesitate to disclose your true identity.

And regarding RICH PIANA,

I knew Rich ... Not real well .... but well enough!

He was an ape in one of the PLANET OF flicks and in my humble opinion ... one hell of  great individual .

Those who speak otherwise most likely never met him or knew him personally.

And thanks for the water-bottle offer, but water-bottles are one of those free gifts that all the casinos give away to their small time gamblers in this town.

SHIZZO , please feel free to carry on.

Gift giving is overrated. Pretty much, I don't buy gifts for anyone over 17 years old, with some rare exceptions.

I buy gifts for:

--girlfriend
--mom and dad
--girlfriends mom and dad
--close friends kids (2 kids)

I don't buy for friends (we don't exchange--plus, I buy for their kids), uncles, aunts, or cousins. These people, and anyone over 17, should not expect gifts.

Exactly. Consumerism has convinced people that you have to buy for everyone. Absolutely ridiculous. The added stress to please others with gifts is unacceptable!!

I see my aunts, uncles and cousins about 1x per year--I don't even like most of them. All of my grandparents have passed. I see my close friends around the holidays, but I buy for their kids, not them anymore.

I tell people every year not to buy me anything. My parents never listen. I guess they just like giving me something. So, I tell them to give me something small--usually they get me a few gift cards (Amazon, Express, Dunkin Donuts). I figure if I want something,  I will just buy it for myself.

nothing wrong with it, really... aside from the fact that u getting them what U want is fuking selfish, lol.... but its unfortunate for the gift recipients in general. If u have any desire to make them happy... money is better.

The question is this:

My girl likes jewelry and stuff like that, however, she wants a  new laptop. She is not into technology, but a new computer would be useful for her job--she has stated that she needs a new laptop.

So, do I get her something I know she loves (jewelry) or do I get her something that I know she needs, but is not really into (laptop)?

That's pretty awesome. Well organised. I don't have anyone left in my life to buy presents for but when I did the Christmas shopping started and finished Christmas eve!!!

Laptop, because it has longevity and is a need not really a want. And she will be more appreciative.
The jewelry can be saved for either her birthday or your anniversary

Buy her something from Caliber Fitness Solutions.

Yea, I don't  usually give Christmas gifts to anyone beyond their teen-age years  ,,,,, but yesterday there was a sale on one of those piano mats that appeared in the old BIG movie .

25% off brought the price down to $75 and it's supposed to be the best one made in its class and sold bt that expensive toy store in NYC.

And since we have professional dancers (retired NYC Rocketts), young national dance champions, 5 actor's with Screen Actor's Guild cards with  all the benefits, 1 professional musician (Cirque de Soleil) with all the benefits, and 3 future fight champs who started at the age of five ... I figured that it would be a fun gift for one and all.

So now I'm done with all this Christmas shopping, but I'll start again once I recover from the New Year's celebration.
