P51 mustang was under powered before it got a rolls engine from england

i love the P38 lightning for some reason - it was in the movie von ryan's express

My Dad is a Ww2 vet, and I asked him if any of his buddies saw action, and he pointed out his friend Ray Bain, and said " Ray piloted a P51, and he was a triple Ace". I had no idea he was a badass I just knew him as the old guy my Dad played golf with

Fiat G.55 Centauro

Probably the best Italian fighter of World War II and the main fighter of the Italian Social Republic.

The Luftwaffe, after testing it rated the the G.55 as "the best fighter of the Axis" and considered producing it under license, but its production hours were a lot higher than that of the BF-109. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_G.55
