I'll say this about Aikido. When I was involved with BJJ an owner of an Aikido dojo came in.  He was clueless like everyone is starting out but he was very adept at avoiding arm locks. I guess all his years of Aikido gave him a sense of how locks work and how to defend. Anyway that's my guess.

Long story shorts, years of intense training aikido gives you a slight edge against the first timers in a real fight.

If you yelled "Aikido" in a crowded theater, many would say "God bless you" in response.

I grew up with my father teaching it, very under appreciated martial art, in todays world of MMA similar to judo got left behind in todays world of wrestling or kick boxing base.

A poke in the eye or a kick in the nuts is always effective.

As long as you realize your opponent can do the same.

All these martial arts work if your opponent stands there and cooperates.

Muay Thai is great because you don't stand there waiting for your opponent to attack, you dump a bunch of hard strikes

Any grappling that makes use of a gi to manipulate the opponent makes me pull faces. When's the last time you went out for the night and were attacked by a man from feudal Japan?

Sounds like you don't have too much experience with BJJ. Every school that's legit has no gi training also.  Also any coat or shirt can be used to choke you.

Aikido is an art that really helps individuals grow.  Seagal is a great example as he went from a skinny twink in the 80's to a 400 pound land whale today.  His ki is strong.
