Active mRNA is a made up term, mRNA is like sending someone an email, its literally just a bunch of instructions that tells the cells to do something, in this case, its produces the spike protein and then allows the body to attack it an develop an immune response, so when Covid comes along, the memory B and T cells in the body recognises the ACE2 receptors on the virus and attacks it and kills it.
