Not the last twenty or so years for me, bit like bodybuilding Family and work took over, but enjoyed playing FIFA prior to that.

really, what do real men do, chop wood in the backyard? lol

What are we supposed to be accomplishing? I don't want to be a President. Am I supposed mow the lawn all day, or work on my car, or chop wood.?

I chop wood.

Gaming, no. I can't. I once lost a couple of months to Age of Empires II. I even lost a couple month's evenings to Slitherio. They kept playing in my head even when I lay down to go to sleep,  so kind of a problem.

If you gave me an awesome, modern day game, you wouldn't see me for 6 months. I'd be broke, zero physique, and need to readjust my sleep cycle to when it's nighttime. I don't want that.

I also grew out of it.

But I dislike about being an adult that everything has to be so practical and rational. There is something enjoyable in doing creative things, and there should be room for that.

nothing but a bunch of outdated stereotypes that haven't been true since the early 90's in this thread

if you don't like video games you don't like having fun

how is it anymore of a "time waster" than watching tv or youtube, using the internet, social media or any other hobby for that matter?  every hobby can be called a "time waster", do we really need to use every second of the day to work or make money?

red dead redemption 2 and the last of us have better stories and character development than any movie i've seen in the last 20 years

i think golf is silly, boring, and overpriced yet every rich guy i've ever met loves it so i guess that is more acceptable since it is associated with rich guys

as for women, many women these days play video games too so that is another outdated stereotype

E
It is entertaining but putting that same energy into online betting could make a person a lot of money.

100%.

Remember not being able to afford it, and looking at the box thinking the graphics were incredible.

I had Atari, did a paper route and then got colecovision, but missed that one.

I bought Atari 2600 with my 1st Communion money. May of 1981 I believe.

My cousins had Intellivision. Like you I thought it was next level. I loved their boxing game.

Next up was Colecovision. Got it for my birthday.  Dad took it back cuz it was a lemon.  Got a replacement one and it too was a dud. We both said fuck it and got my money back.

Later on I got Nintendo. RBI baseball was my all time favorite. Used to only play at night or when it rained. It was the 1987 edition as it had the good Mets lineup from 86.

That was really the last time I was into  video games.

I dove into online gaming back in Wolfenstein/Doom/Quake era. I quickly realized what a swirling sucking life robbing black hole I had gone down. I quit

I play PS4 games occasionally, takes me for ever to complete a game's story line.  I play single player only, never the online multiplayer stuff.

Best games I've played lately, all developed by Sony Studios:

There is nothing creative about playing a video game. It's just a high tech, time sucking version of an endless crossword puzzle made to look like a movie.

You're correct, at least a crossword builds vocabulary.  :D

Completely untrue. The directing, cinematography and character development can rival any good movie, and there’s plenty of problem-solving and creative design to keep the player challenged and engaged.

probably 10 years ago or so by now... Was a fan of blizzard games. I tried to pick it up from time to time but couldn't get the same feel.

Also I changed my focus to do mostly things productive in the little spare time that I have. Something that will generate income in one way or another or something I learn something from.
