« on: October 09, 2022, 02:06:35 AM »
Mitch Hooper wins again.
Probably the best rookie season in Strongman history...

Aivars (2nd) and Faires (3rd) also been doing outstanding...

How is it any different for me to compete in the 80kg lightweight division than it is for you to compete in the 40-44 Master's division?

Ronnie Coleman had 100-lb of body weight on you in roughly the same condition. How am I any less of a Strongman than you are a bodybuilder?

I am a lightweight Strongman. It's a real division, just like all combat sports have weight classes. No one mentions that when evaluating the performances of UFC fighters in lower weight classes. The only difference is - in fighting, you can't tell how much better the heavyweights are, because they don't fight lightweights.

But the disparity is the same.

It's that in Strongman, you can visually see how much weaker the lightweights are.

That being said, the top 80kg guys are strong as hell - and definitely much stronger than 250-lb gym rats who don't compete.

Also, if you want to be mean - you do know these heavyweight Strongman competitors have maybe a 55-year lifespan, right?

So if I wanted to be a dick to someone making fun of me competing as an 80kg lightweight, I'd say - at least lightweights aren't taking decades off their life.

Or, I could say to you - at least I have hair.

See - anyone can be cruel to anyone else if they want to. But why would they?

Dead last…same as your bodybuilding contest results.

I'm actually fairly competitive among the lightweight lifters in North America.

Competitive just means - I could show up and not embarrass myself. And if you watch that video above of the 80kg World Championships, if I recall correctly, I would have been second last. But definitely in the bottom three.

But there's no shame in that. Those guys are extremely strong - especially for <80kg:

If I get my deadlift up to 550-lb, I'll have respectable showings. Although I don't see it getting over 530-lb at that body weight. But I'm aiming for 550 anyway, so even if I miss it, it will still be at a competitive level.

Not everyone wants to walk around over 200-lb - let alone way over that.

The WSM guys who you consider "real" Strongmen are also cutting literally decades off their lifespan. I'd be surprised if the biggest ones even make 50.

But hey, I'm not judging - to each their own.

No.

You’re dead last place in Northern Ontario, not North America.

You have to pay the event promoters to even be allowed to compete.

You just don’t know when people are laughing at you.
