Mitchell achieved the world record on the Yoke / Log Press at the recent Rogue Invitational. He completed it 31 seconds or so. It was ~1,000-lb Yoke, followed by a 385-lb log for two or three reps.
I didn't realize he was only 26. Maxime Boudreault [who lives a few blocks from me] is still Canada's Strongest Man, but Mitchell may catch up to him pretty soon.
The dedication of these guys impresses me, but I worry about their health. As recently as 2004, the Farmer's Walk was 120-kg / 265-lb per hand. Meanwhile, the u-80kg guys just did 131-kg / 290-lb per hand, and the WSM guys seldom go below 365-lb.
The only explanation I have is that around 2008, the WSM competitors started using pro bodybuilder PED dosages. I don't know what else could have changed.
Take the stone run at World's - they start at ~265-lb, and go to a ~400-lb stone. It used to start at ~220-lb, with the heaviest stone being ~285-lb.
Mitchell, from what I've heard, is a pretty friendly bloke. I could see him win World's one day.
