Hip flexors
« on: June 06, 2023, 12:13:14 AM »
I was experiencing a fair bit of lower back pain especially after my cycling which I do for my cardio.
Cycling definitely has the hip flexors in a shortened position & the other problem is cycling is very Quad dominant too.
Since I started doing more stretching & training the opposite muscles like glutes & hammies more I feel much better.
I like the video below & the band exercise is very effective for strengthening the muscle group.

do you overload them fully stretched? that's key

Mine are horribly tight, from sitting for work for 30+ years, working on them lately, feeling much better...

That's a good point.
I was thinking of doing weighted step ups or split squats/lunges.
Side lunges might be useful..what do you think bro?

your best bet is always going to be a reverse nordic\bodyweight leg extension, When you can do full rom just hold a plate to your chest for added load. maybe a front foot elevated split squat or a suitcase banded march.

Best thing for hip flexibility is sprinting.

If your knees will allow it of course.

if your hips are tight, it's going to be a while before you're mobile enough to do it with full rom. Try it banded

Oh that's perfect.  I watched the video I posted and it seemed a bit extreme to start with.

Thanks again man.

Soft tissue work, flexibility and yes, posterior chain work. Don’t stretch until after you warm up
