LOL yes - reading is easier than listening, isn't it?

I cheat with Google when trying to read Cyrillic Internet comments and that generally gives an idea of what people are trying to express.  And the way it's worked out is that my (adult) kids all chose different languages, so between us we can us limp through conversations in Spanish, French, German and Japanese.  All we need to do now is get to one of those countries!! ;D

Meilleurs vœux!

That's kind if cool. I'd love to visit Japan, too. My brother went and loved it. Did you watch the Joanna Lumley in Japan series which was recently on? Always loved Joanna and her Japan doc was so well done.

I wish I had the cognition to be able to learn languages as quick as most. Definitely below average, but I think that's due to lack of practice. Glad you're also giving the Frenchies a chance. It's next door, so I feel compelled to try at least. Bloody snails, for gods sake!!!!

Ruski isn't easy to learn. Their alphabet came from Bulgaria, I think. Might be wrong, but the Cyrillic alphabet they use came from Bulgaria. I've done gas contracts around the area, so picked up a little. Like nazat, meaning back or backwards and many others are the same. Not sure why Romania next door is completely different and has another type of Romantic language, is it... Romania has many, many tunnels that their dictator built in the 70s and 80s. Its like another world under Bucharest. It's absolutely crazy what these commies did with their infrastructure..

I'm also learning French myself. It's not easy, even though there are many similarities to English. It seems easy until you put on a French news report or radio transmission and it is 100 miles per hour

If you are having a hard time learning French forget about trying to learn any of the Asian languages especially Japanese. Totally different word structures. Mandarin also, with all the different tones and pronunciations. Two of the hardest languages to learn
