A sad day when Ronnie Coleman retires
« on: June 21, 2006, 04:36:20 AM »
Before all the Jay Cutler fans bend me over and.... let me explain.

I'm not a fanatic when it comes to Pro Bodybuilding, I would not call myself a fan of some sort, I like some Bodybuilder and I don't like some bodybuilders.
Three years ago as I got interested in Pro Bodybuilding I have never seen Ronnie Colenman in a movie, the first clip I saw was the one were he squated 800 pounds, and It made me laugh at his "LIGHTWEIGT" and gasp in awe of his strengh.
I remember that I burned the clip on a CD and showed all people in my office.
Till than I have never watched a training movie and I remember how surprised I was, how motivating it was watching Ronnie squat, and at the same time how amusing to hear him talk.

This is now a couple of years ago...
Yesterday I watched part of Ronnie Coleman the unbelievable for the millionth time, and I was thinking that this years MrO could be very much the last one for Ronnie and we may never see or hear him shout Lightweight and Nothing' but a peanut...

After seeing so many other Training movies from different Athletes, I have to say, the one and only DVD's that get me all ready to go to the gym and kick some ass are the one by Ronnie Coleman.
There is something about the way the trains and WHERE he trains, it's the same concept AnimalPak uses with so much success, the hardcore gym...the Mecca were you are still allowed to slam weights, no sterile environment and most important people who understand WHY you go to the gym and WHY you see the need to go heavy today.
Compare Ronnie’s DVD's and Jays, and no ovens to Cutler, he is most deff. a nice and clever guy, but at the end of the day his movies are boring as hell.
We may never have somebody like Ronnie that makes you laugh and charges u up all ready to go to gym.
In a way Ronnie resebles everything Bodybuilding should be a what seperates a Bodybuilder from your average Gym Tourist....Hardcore lifting, Hardcore living.

All I'm saying is that I believe we will not see Trainings movies that are that hardcore and still funny to watch  again.
I mean seriously show me a movie that is as entertaining as The unbelievable...maybe Pumping Iron, but that's it.

Check out Final Countdown, Shawn Rays video.

Best training video I've seen.

I have seen both movies you guys talk about but none of these come close to R. Colemans movies, they lack....hmmm I don't know the word, charm maybe.
For excample Blood & Guts is a good movie but Yates trainings partner shouting: COME ON DIESEL LETS FLY, is just enoying, and yes P.I is not a trainingsmovie as such so I take that back.

the Final Countdown is a very close second to unbelievable. I will give that it more informative! Shawn explains his meals and also "1/2 reps". But Ronnie makes you want to run to the gym and kick your training in high gear (figuratively).

That's what I excactly what I meant; I don't think there are any other training movies out there that symbolize the credo of being tough hardcore as much as Coleman’s movies.
I mean look at Cutlers movies, they are full of information and so forth, but I just don't like to watch him workout in a huge half empty sterile Gym, it’s just boring and not inspiring.

That's true. I think the Unbelievable is one of the most boring things i have seen in my life, but it's motivating as hell.
You watch it and you NEED to go to the gym.
But it's not entertaining. PI is entertaining. Flex Wheelers vids are entertaining. But Ronnie? Hell no.

Seen Blood & Guts and Unbelievable - two awesome vids. Ronnie's is more fresh in my mind though, and I agree it's one of the best to get you pumped. I love the Deadlifting "scenes".

About this year being Ronnie's last, well... I had a dream that I was at the Olympia, and he showed up less than good condition (excess water I guess, not as ripped). Jay was there in top shape and I bet he would have taken it if it was an actual show. Somehow, I don't see it happening though.

Are you kidding me!?!? I have the DVD and I can't ever watch it again with that VERY annoying training partner of his. So basically, it's collecting dust. Now Ronnie's are awesome! Jay's are more informative. I enjoy both athlete's videos.

Not entertaining? Come man, the first time I saw Ronnie in his Patrol Car munching his 3 meal of the day like a happy kid made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes.
Him shouting GOT TO GO DEEP YEP YEP YEP or anything Coleman like even makes my GF lol.

Totally agree here. Cutler's 6h Dvds are so bad, the US Forces show them in Guantanamo.

No sorry. See him eating the same stuff without talking every day is not entertaining.
Also, it seems Ronnie only knows three or four sentences he repeats for the whole DVD.  :-\

Possibilities:

1. He was carb depleted

2. He felt shy being on camera

3. The editor was a Cutler fan who wanted to make Ronnie look dumb

4. Ronnie is dumb

You decide. But IQ does distribute over a bell curve. And someone has to be on the left side of it.

For some strange reason, a raggedy gym with beat-up equipment doesn't motivate me to hit the iron.

If anything I like shiny, almost brand-spanking new equipment in my gym. It's like a kid getting new toys for Christmas. Give me a well-painted bench-press apparatus (polished leather on the bench itself), the shiny chrome bars and jet-black 45-lb plates (or those shiny grey ones). If there's a new power cage in the gym or a new leg press, I can't wait to get at it and act a fool.

One of the best workouts I've ever had occured back in college. The gym had just introduced a new cardio class. To break in the occasion, the staff hired a local DJ to play the music, instead of the class instructor bringing in the usual tapes. The music (house, techno, and freestyle, which were my favorite kinds) was so loud that they didn't even bother to play that horrific classic 70s rock station that the gym staff sometimes put on the speaker (Thank the Lord).

I went nuts in there!! Have you ever had one of those workouts, where you KNOW you're going to be sore as the dickens the following day, but you're having too much fun to stop? Well, that was the case for me. Just when I called it a day, one of my favorite jams would hit the turntable; and I just HAD to go back and do an extra set (and put on a little more weight).

That's the kind of stuff that makes pumping iron fun for me.
