Training in the Heat.
« on: July 02, 2006, 06:03:50 PM »
Personally my best workouts come out in the heat. I get a sweat going really fast and easily, right now there isn't one person in the gym because of the heat. Any of you guys re-schedule workouts because of temperature?

The heat really helps in general; too much AC is a definite drawback to a good workout. The only problem is when it gets to around 95 or higher it can be detrimental. I've seen some dummies keeping the temp over 95 just because they think they'll get a better pump-if you need 95+ for a good pump something's wrong with the workout.

I love it. My gym owner is too cheap to use the AC unless it is over 90. I still wear a hooded sweatshirt so people won't talk to me and I get the best workouts. At my MA gym, however, everyone complains if the AC isn't at 70 or below, so win at my bb gym, but lose out at the gym that I own.

wow, you must be the popular one having to wear a shweatshirt to keep folks from talking to you.. lol..

no, thats not what I meant. My town isn't very big, we have like 4 gyms in the whole area. I just hate feeling obligated to go over and bs with someone who I may have known years ago. Hood up= no eye contact, thats all.

Hit the beach.

Train out doors.

My gym is too stuffy when its really hot. And if captain chloroform with his death stink armpits from hell turns up its a one way ticket to the emergency ward from oxygen deprivation and poisoning.

If you must hit the weights drink heaps and take it a bit slower so you dont chronically overheat. A wet towel for cooling off is great too.

Unless it's cool or too heavily air-conditioned, wearing extra's overkill. With room temperature or warm temps all you need for a good pump is some training intensity.

there is sum science behid training in heat read it in old MD. old tim bbuilders swear by it. bill peralr wore 3 fleeces to train in and when he peeled it off he was steaming.

most temperature we get in summer here on v rare occassion would be 85-90degrees max so not too bad. i hate the heat prefer the cold

What's that like? Probably some fans running at least. I'd prefer that to having extra layers of clothing. Metroflex gym must be similar to what you're dealing with; what is it 100?

my god! 110! I'd go mental. I know i'd still train but I can't imagine that hot. I live in Northern British Columbia and an average hot day is 80, today was 90 but it doesn't get much hotter than that here.

It depends on what kind of heat we are talking about Heat up to about 90 not bad but need to hydrate yourself.  If were talking about chicago in the summer on an 85 degee day with 85% humidity that could be unhealthy same as in Miami.

You haven't lived unless you've lifted at the famous outdoor gym at Muscle Beach in Venice, CA with the cool ocean breeze reinfocing every rep and the testosterone surging from the hotties in thongs rollerblading around you.
