Would the pros be nothing without a "guru"?
« on: September 19, 2006, 12:55:44 PM »
I pose this question because to my knowledge the "pros" of yesteryear, a la Arnold and Sergio, did not have such gurus telling them what to eat or how to train and yet these guys looked fantastic!

we would be "nothing" if we didnt have human grade products in our hands and had to count on joe shmoe ug bath to bring us where we want to be (that would never happen ofcourse),,,guru is not needed if you know your body ;) save money and spend it on pharma hg products,,only way to grow and every one follows this money spending routine through his sponsors or from his own finances.

Who? Kurt Marnul from back in the day? That I believe, but during Arnold's heyday I doubt he had someone telling him what to do. By that point, I think he pretty much figured it out for himself.

I think the only need for a Guru would be to dial it in or last minute contest prep finishing touches. My question is..... Is the "guru" the person who determines the drugs?(amounts, types, lengths) or does the "guru" strictly for training/nutritional purposes only.

To get to pro status the bodybuilder must be comfortable with his own body. Just like anybody who trains hard. They must find which training methods/nutritional strategies work in best response to his body. Throughout the years of climbing the ranks in order to achieve pro status I would imagine one would be comfortable enough to determine his own physical/nutritional needs. Are "gurus" really necessary and what is it exactly that they do?

With competition being so high and coming in 5% off means finishing 10th instead of 1st why not?

Why does Tiger Woods arguble one of the best golfer ever still need a coach? Why do the top tennis pro still need and use a coach/trainer?  Having an outside "expert" to give advice/guide can only help. Assuming that he knows what he is doing he should be able to assist you with your goals.

The point is this , It is far easier to follow some else guide lines and plans than to " Guess " it your self , plus you get a viable objective opinion on where you stand rather than self assessment.
I have done the nutrition and medicinal planning for hundreds of champions and they all know the basis of competitive nutrition but they come to me as I hold a neutral outlook on there status and because of this can adopt a this is what we need to do attitude to be in your best shape possible , plus as a qualified nutritionist I can calorie count to last calorie, so all that is needed by the athlete is to do as he/she is told , and this is one less thing they have to worry about whilst getting ready.

I mean Lee knows it all as he being doing this for a long time but he still runs everthing by me for a second opinion and I tweak things here and there as I feel fit ( weather he sticks to it is another story) but the initial point is it is better just to do as you are told rather than try and guess it yourself , but be carefull who you get advice off , because in this industry every one is a expert , you ever notice that !!!

The Guru is the side-kick to every pro-bodybuilder, because they have to have someone else to blame for their shitty placings other than the judges.........LoL
