you guys and those on other mma forums like sherdog, etc are obviously hard core fans, but dana needs to attract joe public thus he needs to sell his celebrities and then re-sell them again and again add nauseum.
he realizes it's all getting a bit tired (how many times do we have to look at shamrock melting down in the audience, chuck wide eyed like a fucking junky and ortiz being the obnoxious prat that he is?
it's the same old act every time and it gets a bit tired. enter mirko and boom, they'll call him the assassin or something and sell him as some sort of killing machine. as don king would say, "only in america!"
unfortunately the perfect fighting machine is not any of this shit (as some of you know). this animal is instead someone who controls his emotions, saves his energy, stays real loose and reserves his adrenaline and killer instinct (for want of a less redundant term) for the ring. he must be exactly like a stone cold killer and go about his business with no real feeling at all. fear, hate, anger, even sadness and love are useful to stir up adrenaline and motivation, but these emotions MUST be in complete control if you want to fight well.
when shamrock has meltdown after meltdown (all veins popping out and tight as fuck) he's burning up all his adrenaline, stamina and psychological edge. when it comes time to fight the man's done all his fighting OUTSIDE the ring. even pretending to melt down is a waste of energy because if you're convincing enough the body doesn't actually know the difference and will leave you just as fucked (trust me, been there).
guys like fedor, mirko and even lidell know this so they try to remain as calm as possible. fedor and mirko have been lucky up until now, but now mirko, at least, is going to have to jump through a few hoops to up the ticket sales.
even someone as ferocious as tyson during his early career remained very calm when he went about his business. if you ever watch his early fights or even the title fight with berbick you will hear rooney telling him to remain calm as he sits in the corner.
if any of you guys ever compete this will be your greatest advice (ok i've gone completely off topic).
novices 99% of the time run in there all hyped up, nervous and scared and you can see these emotions written all over them. it's like an open book. then you see the trainer hyping them up even more - STUPID!
if the guy at the other end is calm and focused i'll put my money on him every time.
