Cop who dealt gear to cops, busted
« on: January 19, 2007, 08:31:25 PM »
RICHMOND, Va. A former Petersburg police officer has been sentenced to three months in federal prison for illegally distributing anabolic steroids.

Thirty-five-year-old Calvin Leon Felder also was sentenced by a federal judge in Richmond yesterday to two years of supervised release with mandatory drug testing.

Felder pleaded guilty last October to distributing steroids to former Petersburg police officer Michael Tweedy.

Tweedy is serving prison time for a near-fatal assault on a Petersburg man after a traffic stop. Tweedy attributed the assault at his own sentencing to the illegal use of anabolic steroids.

I'm just wondering when will the US government realize that banning performance  enchancing drugs is a huge waste of time and money,  and stop putting innocent people behind bars?!

At this very moment, there are millions of dollars being spent to stop 180 pound kids from reaching 220 pounds.

At this very moment, our sworn enemy North korea, which blew up a nuke and fired missiles are hawaii last year to calibrate their weapons systems, could very easily smuggle a nuke to Mexico then walk it into California through an unguarded border and set it off at the landmark of their choice.

Priorities.

This is probably the wrong board to challenge you regarding this, Rob.  Nevertheless I fail to see how you believe those two events (NK and drugs) to be mutually exclusive.  Is it wrong to make murder illegal because we don't agree with Cuba's human rights violations?  This is odd logic indeed.

We have limited dollars and manpower.  if there is one police officer playing NARC in the Golds Locker Room, while a vanload of men/boxes/whatever is able to cross our border unchecked, then those dollars and manpower and being used incorrectly, IMO.

I'm sorry I have to dumb this down for you, but here goes.  The thrust of 240's argument was that we shouldn't worry about stopping police from dealing drugs because North Korea has nuclear capabilities.

My analogy used murder (substitute for drugs, okay?) and Cuba's human rights violations (thus the influx of people across the US border).  Both are entirely undesirable from the perspective of the US government, as drug dealing and usage and North Korea's new found weaponry.  Catching on yet?

My point is that we don't necessarily have to stop pursuing one act of unlawfulness simply because there are other troubles in the world.  Rob is right to point out scarceness of resources, but for me, taking one cop off the streets in New York hardly substitutes for one less illegal immigrant over the border.

My point is that you have no point when it comes to Rob's statment. You can't substitute murder for steroids. Once you did your point was not valid.

My point is that you have no point when it comes to Rob's statment. You can't substitute muder for steroids. Once you did your point was not valid.

And you can't substitute 'muder' for murder.  My point is valid, and I think I speak for the majority of people when I say that one less drug dealing policeman can't be a bad thing.

Also, it's interesting you point out that murder and steroids can't be compared, and yet you allow Rob freely to compare the wiping out of drugs to a nation's military capabilities thousands of miles away.

Bruce, this post is very clearly about the prioritization of resources.

Dollars spent on DEA stings on college kids vs. guarding the border.

Finite resources whose purpose is, IMO, chosen unwisely.

WRONG! He was talking about STEROIDS and how we are wasting time and resources on them . He never said DRUGS which could mean anything from cocaine to heroine.  YOU compared nukes and murder which are related, but have no relevance to his thread. Next time you try and refute a post at least quote that person correctly.

Something tells me crack and meth are placed higher on that list. Come on dude, be serious. There was a giant crack explosion in the 90's that has since been at least controlled with the work of the fuzz and other agency's. Those "crack" years in the 90's saw the higest murder rates ever in big cities like Ny,Boston,Philly etc etc. Since you hear about a steroid bust once or twice every 500 years I think you guys are safe. Something also tells me cops should not be taking juice if they are going to be busting people for smoking a little weed.

Why do people who take juice act like the government is out to catch every single person in the world? That is just a gross exaggeration. A ton of my buddies have been juicing for years on end and never had a single problem. We all live in the city and there are actual drug forces here that could bust them if they where hell bent on it. I would guess, most people on here who juice have never had an issue with the cops. The bitching starts when people make a bonehead move and get themselves caught. I wonder what this guys sentance would be is he was selling herion? My guess is 3 months in federal prison ::)
