WANDERLEI SILVAS FUTURE?
« on: April 10, 2007, 08:16:01 AM »
i think so silva should retire now.i mean after getting brutally KTFO by dan and cro crop,i think so he should retire.i really don't think he can comeback from his embarassing defeats.he can only beat those little japanese fighters.he just can't beat the big boys of MMA.if you can see his past record he got beaten by ortiz, arona, belfort, mirko, mark hunt, dan etc..against real fighters, wandy is a pussy

He fought Ortiz years ago before he was truely The Axemurderer so we can discard that one. Nobody can be on top form all of the time, and the guys he lost to were absolute cream of the crop, so there is no shame in that. His career still has some way to go, and im sure he will know when its time to pack it in/ before then im hoping we get to see him vs Chuck, the 2 recent losses have happened to alot of fighters in their career and they have some back stronger for it. It all depends on his mind set, but he should absolutely keep fightin as long as he feels he has something to offer

He was the axe murderer from his old IVC days.  In the cage, John Lewis and Tito came up with the perfect game plan.  Wandy wouldn't be as effective in the cage with no stomps, kneeing a downed opponent, etc....

Wandy in the US is a differnt fighter than Wandy in Japan under Pride rules.  In any AC sanctioned bouts, there will be drug testing.  Wandy will have to cycle off.  Secondly, Chute Boxe fighters are excellent in the clinch, they are also great at sprawling, getting the plum and kneeing someone to Timbuktu.  Lastly as evidenced by fights like the Kondo fight, Wandy loves grabbing the ropes and stomping a downed opponent.  Can't do the last two in a US sanctioned match.  His striking, with looping punches and short arms, makes him a matchup nightmare for a guy like Chuck Liddell, who conversely has extremely long arms, even though he too throws looping punches.

not wanting to change the subject, but since you brought the 'looping' punches, dont you guys think that Chuck has a AWFUL guard???? its always open and too low...how in hell doesnt anyone explore this fault more????
He (and others) specially when doing this looping punches, they open their guard a LOT (something that even Fedor does...but since his punches are very fast he has some advantage...)
 What do you guys think?

i know what you mean about him being called the axe murderer, but im talking about when he went to japan and became the monster everyone was shit feared of. Thats what i class as the axe murderer, against Tito he looked small and inexperienced in comparison to what we see today.

If Tito ever fought him in Japan he would be damaged badly, he is the perfect fighter for that format just as Chuck is the perfect cage fighter just now

Thats because Tito is 6'2 1/2, walks at around 225 and CUTS to 205.  Wandy is 5'11,normally weighs 220 and cuts to 203.  Tito did fight Wandy in Japan, but under UFC rules.  Chute Boxe fighters are tailor made for Pride's old rules.  I don't think Evangelista Cyborg would fare to well in the UFC under NSAC rules, but dems the rules.

true true, but he looked waaaaaay smaller by todays standards. i keep getting mis-quoted as i forget not alot of people understand what im trying to say as im thinking. If Tito fought him under Pride rules even a year ago then he would have been hurt badly, Tito doesnt train to include the knees and stomps like Chutebox do. Its secondary to their nature

He may have appeared to be smaller, but the UFC class limit is 205, and Pride's Middleweight is 203.  So he was prolly bigger in the UFC.  Tito, John Lewis came up with the perfect game plan to deal with Wandy.  Heck, he even got a flash KO of Wandy in that match.  Tito was clipped as well, and at one point, ran from Wandy.  Either way, it was a pretty unanimous win for Tito.  Tito is HUGE for the weight class.  He is able to dominate smaller fighters even if they are more accomplished or skilled than he.  (See Vladdy Matsushenko/Tito)  Tito was dominating him in wrestling, and Vlad is a international level wrestler.  (The size and strength differnce helped)

His head is also very large for that weight class.... ;D
