when is it on?

I love the horses, I won with My Paris at Newmarket or Goodwood today (I can't remember which, just the names of the horses), my uncle Alan in Liverpool lets me pick a few on Saturdays and he goes to the betting shop and we watch it on Channel 4.

Back to America:  Isn't our Queen Elizabeth attending your Kentucky Derby?  Sounds like fun.  I'll watch it on the news.

xL

is there still time to pick a horse?  I'm funny silly lucky at this.

Queen lives dream at Kentucky Derby

Press Association
Saturday May 5, 2007 10:03 PM

The Queen arrived at the Kentucky Derby fulfilling a lifelong dream of attending the world famous races.

On the third day of her six-day trip to the US, the 81-year-old monarch headed to Churchill Downs in Louisville.

She was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and close friends William and Sarah Farish, whose Land's End farm she was staying on.

Thousands of racegoers were hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal visitor at the 133rd derby. But the Queen was up on Millionaire's Row - an exclusive set of private rooms, costing thousands of pounds to hire.

Meade Fogel, one of the racegoers, said the Queen had a spot right near the window. "Everybody stood up and clapped. She's gone to sit right by the window so she can look over the course."

Mrs Fogel added that the Queen was undertaking a tour of stud farms on Sunday. "She's coming to my family's farm so I might see her again."

Bets were being taken earlier on the shade of the Queen's hat with blue and white-silver being the joint favourite.

However, she turned up in a pale lime-green coat with a two-coloured hat - pink on top and with a large green rim.

One of the other VIPs in the Queen's room, Virginia Bobins said: "She was just having a little tea and looking fabulous. People aren't going up to her but they are taking photographs."

The Queen has visited Kentucky four times before, staying with Mr Farish, who is the former US Ambassador to Britain and also a horse breeder. But she has never before made it to the Kentucky Derby until now.

Curlin is the Kentucky Derby Favorite    PDF    Print    E-mail
Written by Robert Johnson
Saturday, 05 May 2007
Curlin is the Kentucky Derby FavoriteInternet racebook Bodog.com has made Curlin the favorite to win the 2007 Kentucky Derby. The odds on Curlin are posted at 3.5 to 1. Jockey Robby Albarado will ride Curlin, who was trained by Steve Asmussen. Post time for the 2007 Kentucky Derby is at 6:04 PM EST.

Expert horse racing handicapper Anthony Stabile of VegasInsider.com had this to say about Curlin, “Easily one of the most talented horses in the field. His raw ability isn’t a question. Ordinary horses just don’t win races the way he does, no matter how inferior the competition. It’s the lack of seasoning that worries me as well as the fact that this is beyond question the best and biggest field he’s come across. Plus, I don’t like the fact that he’s inside. Your 7-2 morning line favorite will need to overcome over a century’s worth of history if he’s to win the Roses. Last horse to win the Derby with just 3 starts was Regret in 1915 and no horse has won without racing as a two-year-old since Apollo in the seventh running of the event. Plus, you have to deal with Albarado in the irons. Another I’m using on the bottom end of the tris and supers.”

Bodog.com has posted betting odds on the 2007 Kentucky Derby:

SEDGEFIELD: 50 to 1

CURLIN: 7 to 2

ZANJERO: 30 to 1

STORM IN MAY: 30 to 1

IMAWILDANDCRAZYGUY: 50 to 1

COWTOWN CAT: 20 to 1

LIQUIDITY: 30 to 1

STREET SENSE: 4 to 1

SCAT DADDY: 10 to 1

NOBIZ LIKE SHOBIZ: 8 to 1

HARD SPUN: 15 to 1

TEUFLESBERG: 30 to 1

BWANA BULL: 50 to 1

SAM P: 20 to 1

TIAGO: 15 to 1

CIRCULAR QUAY: 8 to 1

STORMELLO: 30 to 1

ANY GIVEN SATURDAY: 12 to 1

DOMINICAN: 20 to 1

GREAT HUNTER: 15 to 1

I don't really like Liquidity. I don't know much about horses actually, but my brother is there and I always have him place a bet for me. Still a few minutes away, about 5 or so.

So can I watch that WildandCrazy horse at 50-1 on the internet?  I guess not, but I'll try.

I think perhaps it will be on the BBC news later because the Queen is there.
I wonder which one she's picked?

I know nothing whatsoever about horses, I just pick silly funny names and I'm more often than not lucky.

Looks nice in Kentucky on the BBC news...

was that the favourite who came in at 4-1?
that's no fun, i never ever pick the favourite, on principle...
xL

i prefer the outsiders.

I'm going to the new Ascot this year, I've been to Sandown, Kempton and all of the Londonish courses more than a couple of times.

One of my favourite days out, I pack a picnic, we sit in the cheap seats and pick silly names and mad odds.  I've never not won money.

giddy up

Looks like he was the second favorite. Curlin was 7-2. I don't bet favorites either, then again I never win either. :P

I didn't pick Street Sense either.

Street Sense Comes From Far Back to Win Kentucky Derby
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS 15 minutes ago

Street Sense roared from next-to-last in a 20-horse field to win the Kentucky Derby

well, he would, wouldn't he?  and we all would have picked that horse if we'd thought about it long and hard enough...

But bet on Scat Daddy again, next time you see him, he's a finisher
