No arm soreness on Max OT?
« on: June 13, 2007, 07:13:40 AM »
Started the Max OT routine and followed it without deviation..period. So heavy that by my last set I was at failure but, 2 days later and still no soreness in my bi's or tri's....reasons? I tried to do a light "burn out" set at the end, just to see if I was at true failure (35lbs of concentration curls) and was struggling to do 2 reps.

Supps - L-Glut, Creatine, Multi.

Suggestions? Reasons?

i had this dilemma too. But if you read the protocol, you will see that soreness is not a 'must' on MAX OT. Some times you will not get it, period...
specially on the beginning i had this...but after some weeks (like 4, 5) i started to get sore, specially on chest days, even doing things like just 6 sets.
After you up your intensity, probably soreness will come again...but dont judge your workouts by it (or at least, thats what the protocol says). I myself prefer when i get some soreness (hehehe) but its not always that this happens. Example: Its difficult for me to get my biceps to get sore, but i trained them on monday, and they are sore still today

-Don't expect soreness every workout, but try for it by using great intensity through a variety of means, even ways that Max doesn't necessarily suggest.

-More frequent workouts will generally aclimate the muscle and make soreness less pronounced than more infrequent workouts.

Ok just checking...I did read that but I figured if I'm going super heavy for all sets that I should be somewhat sore. Years ago when I learned how to really lift, soreness was known to be a welcomed effect because it meant you did your job at the gym right.

yeah i agree, but it depends...I myself, was used to lots of volume, so just when i changed to Max OT, it was difficult to get sore because after all, i was doing a lot less sets. One month or maybe a little more after i was getting used to the workout, i started to get sore on some days (not always)
try change a little the exercises, do the most 'hard' ones (like barbell and dumbell curls, pull ups, t-bar rows, deadlifts, barbell press, etc).
Try to experiment. I myself think the same way as you, i welcome some soreness...But even when my arms for instance dont get sore, they are getting bigger, so i dont feel so bad  ;D

Being sore doesnt mean you are growing.  No direct correlation.  I have only ever asked Ronnie one question in person and I asked him if he got sore after training and he said he got tired but never sore after 1 year.  He still got bigger after 1 year though.  Anecdotal i know but nonetheless illustrates my point.  Use strength progressions with good form as a guide of progress.

Max-OT will make you stronger each work out if the principles are followed, and sound nutrition is used.  are you natural or geared?  I do not think that Max-OT is a effective strategy for geared athletes because your body with drugs is capable of much more.  but for naturals, I think Max-OT is the best.  you need the strength to move heavier weight to add muscle.  you need a lot of protein too though.  because the workouts are shorter, I also believe you can supplement some of your carbs for more protein.  as a drugged BB, I never grew with low volume, but as a natural, it is much easier to make gains and I don't over train.

My diet is in check...so no worries there. I am natural at this point. But will be doing a "beginner" cycle in the next several months. My strength has gone up quite a bit but again...I'm rarely sore. So I guess I'll keep going and just see how it goes..

I would recommend you to stay natural.

I really hope you do.

You got tremendous stats, and it would be a shame to see you not reach your natural potential.

But you gotta make your own choices.

As for the Max-OT biceps: I think perhaps it would be better to do them in the 7-8 range, or even 8-10, instead of the 4-6.

One reason being that you are very strong, and by doing this, you will use slightly less load, and avoid a bicep tear. But also that there are more slow twitch fibers in the biceps.

My advice: shoot an email to AST's Max-OT staff and ask them about it. I would be very interested in their answer as well. :)

If those bodyfat measurements are accurate, you are a freak.

As long as you are making progress (ie more weight, better measurements), I wouldn't worry about soreness.
