A lot of people curl their spine and tuck their chin into their chest.  Keep your chin up, chest out and head back and you'll feel it a lot more as well as saving yourself future back pain.

i will when i switch up which ab excercises i'm doing every few months. i usually hold a weight though.

Yes, that is how. Might want to raise the angle a bit though. If you hold a weight (BB plate, DB, etc) than hold it above you (like the start of a BP) throughout the situp. Holding a weight on the chest is less productive no matter what any PT might say. Good Luck.

SideBar: think Ab Wheel for a intense upper/lower ab workout. And in a shorter period of time.
