  - SCOTT JUNK REPLACES JUSTIN McCULLY AT UFC 76
Thursday, September 13, 2007 - by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hawaiian fighter Scott Junk replaces Justin McCully at UFC 76. Riding a six-fight winning streak, Junk steps in to face American Kickboxing Academy heavyweight Christian Wellisch.

UFC 76 is scheduled to take place on Sept. 22 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

McCully re-injured his elbow in training according to his manager Ken Pavia. “[Justin] tried working through it, but the pain became unbearable.

“He is devastated because he grew up in the shadows of the Honda Center and always dreamed of fighting on the grand stage in his home town.”

Heading into the planned fight with Wellisch, McCully was on a four-fight winning streak of his own, including a win over Antoni Hardonk at UFC Fight Night 9 in April of this year.

“He is being re-evaluated by the doctors and we should be given a timetable for his return shortly,” replied Pavia when questioned about McCully’s return to fighting.

UFC 76 Fight Card:
-Mauricio Rua vs. Forrest Griffin
-Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine
-Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch
-Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Lyoto Machida
-Tyson Griffin vs. Thiago Tavares
-Matt Wiman vs. Michihiro Omigawa
-Diego Saraiva vs. Jeremy Stephens
-Christian Wellisch vs. Scott Junk

Isn't Junk the big guy who trains with tito.. I thought I saw his first fight not a bad fighter, to what I recall. But I dont think that he is top B class even.. Anyone know much on him...

Junk trains with MMA development in Kailua and BJ Penn's MMA.  He is tough, has heavy hands.

Yeah, weird how they put Henderson-Jackson on FREE TV and they're trying to charge for this Jardine-Lidell garbage! Guess they wanted some big Nielsen ratings to renegotiate their deal with Spike or leave for ESPN.

It also might have had something to do with the event taking place in England (5 hrs ahead), and being shown on tape delay. I got the results from Sherdog well before the fights were aired.

Wrong guy.  You'd see BJ and Rudy Valentino in his corner.

Rich Clementi vs. Anthony Johnson was just added earlier today as well, Johnson is a little bit more explosive on his feet, but if Clementi can take it to the ground he has the advantage.
