Groink, you ever heard of the guitarist Jason Becker?  A musician friend of mine a long time ago introduced me to him.  I don't think he's that well known, but those who know about him have compared him to Hendrix.  He got Lou Gehrig's disease (pretty sure he's dead now) and then decided to do one last album as a way to express his angst over it.  At the risk of sounding retarded, the music on that album is the most haunting shit I've ever heard.

He is not dead and has recently composed an album with other guitarists playing the parts.  They have a documentary on you tube somewhere.

Crue has always been the shit... I gotta admit I like Shout at the Devil a little more for lifting, but kickstart my heart was in their hayday (Dr. Feelgood album).

W.A.S.P. was also bad ass... WildChild was some kickass stuff.
