Training Variations
« on: January 17, 2008, 09:53:39 AM »
Hey bros listen a while back I spoke with a bunch of you about how many of you go heavy one day and light or not heavy on that parts next cycle...well i told all of you how i never did that i always went heavy and hard and you guys suggested to switch it up...well needless to say i didint till today...today instead of doing my 5x5 chest workout heavy and hard i went for a lighter approach...i think i saw this type of training in a WOJO video so what i did was incline bb press, high cable flyes, flat bb press, decline db flyes.  what i did was picked a weight thati could do about 10 reps at or near failure with for the first set took 15 breaths then hit it again till failure and did that for 3 sets for each movement with a good rest in between each movement while i was stretching out and drinking my water...well first of all holy shit...i dont know what it is but my chest is so tight at least as tight as any other day and i finished my workout in like 30 minutes...does anyone have anything to add to this...i think i am going to try this style for this whole week which will hit everything...then next whole cycle go back to heavy....what do you guys think about this??

Sounds like you are doing a DC style routine, but DC is usually just 1 exercise per body part, resting for 15 breaths between and going to failure with controlled negatives.  The extra volume and intensity is what's causing the change in the feel of your muscle group.  I'll be doing a DC routine in a few months myself, pretty excited to try it out.

yea well wojo is part of the whole dc thing im pretty sure..but i dont know if just the one movement is enough...anyways the whole 15 breaths thing is no joke...its a good workout...i guess due to the muscle shock my chest responded very well to it...so im goin to hit this style up for the whole week...

Yea, I'm not so sure about it either, but the theory is that if you hit the muscle hard enough with heavy weight and the quick rests between it's enough to trigger growth, which makes sense really, but goes against a lot of old school methods.

But hey, I'm willing to try it out, and if it works for me great =)

Well he's also loaded on a ton of hormones so that helps with the "beast" part ;)

I wasn't implying that he was all drugs, Wojo trains hard and knows what he's doing, just saying that he does get some help from the juice, everyone does who's at that level.

You should know I don't care about that, the steroid section is where I hang out the most ;)

By resting less and increasing reps, instead of just moving heavy weight from "Point A" to "Point B",you increased intensity and worked the muscles harder as opposed to working tendons, joints, and ligaments.

If you rest less between sets,it`s what Vince Gironda called,"Intensity Of Effort".

For example,if you and I weighed the exact same amount, and had the exact same strength level, did the exact same workout, using the same weights and reps, but it took you two hours to finish, and it only took me 45 minutes,I trained harder than you did even though we did the exact same thing.

Intensity Of Effort = getting the most work done in the shortest possible amount of time.............. which means less rest between sets,no bullshitting, and pinpoint concentration.

In essence what you did was a pure bodybuilding type workout!!

yea i know emm i shouldve paid more attention to who i was talkin to..but he is still a beast...and as far intensity of effort it sounds good and it was a good workout so im gonna keep this up for this week then next cycle go back to heavy and hard and so and so on..
