need some supplement info (noob)
« on: July 20, 2008, 11:58:01 AM »
i have been lifting since 4 years. but just about 4 months back i started taking whey (ABB pro). there hasnt been much changes in me. now i have decided to take creatine (unlimate nutrition Creatine biovolumization-dunno wat tht means :S).  so wat is the best way of taking both these supplements?
some guys at my gym recommended me to take  creatine during workouts sip by sip lasting it till the last set of the day and to take whey about 1 hour after workout. is this the correct way? plz help.

I believe the consensus will usually be take creatine and whey pre and post workout.  However IMO if you just get creatine into your system daily and liquid protein as soon as you wake up and right after working out you will be fine.  I certainly wouldn't wait an hour post workout to drink my protein.  By the way if you are waiting for a growth spurt due to the protein you may be waiting awhile, if you are natural growth will always be gradual.  What you should be expecting from the protein is needing less recovery time due to the nutrients in your system at the right times and less muscle soreness.  The creatine  helps bring water into the muscles and keeps muscle building nutrients in them as well so you should expect gains on the scale due to the water immediately but don't be distressed if you don't find this as every one's body is different.  Also you will feel bloated because of the creatine which is normal so don't worry about getting fat.  One more thing is if you have blood work done for any reason your doctor may warn you about elevated levels of creatinine doing harm to your kidneys, but this is because of the way doctors test your kidneys just let him/her know that your on protein and he/she will test your kidneys a different way and find them fine.

Hope this helps

I'd just go with a creatine supplement, protien supplement like whey or preferably a blend of both fast acting and slower digesting protiens, and an multivitamin. I'm taking results and nitrean from atlarge nutrition and am very happy with the results I'm getting. Most reputable supplement companies have some form of what I've recommended. Just get something you like, be consistent with it, and you'll like what you see.

the idea of having it pwo is to refill glycogen levels. personally i take it pre wo and have a protein shake and some diluted gatorade. Creatine is a good supp, but i think you think it is a magic bullet.

Agreed, plus there's no shortcuts in bb'ing don't take supps to get somewhere fast don't take it expecting massive gains in strength or size because if you're natural as I said they will come slowly but surely no matter what supps you're on.  Seriously that kind of thinking will get you injured.  And remember the most important thing is how it works with your body.

as i have said , i have been lifting since 4 years already so i am not really new to it.... my partner has been training along with me but the only difference was tht he took creatine all the way and i did not. and now it shows... i might be wrong thinking tht it was creatine alone..... anyway ,
so u all recommend creatine pre workout and whey post?

just take creatine at about 5g a day wiht some sort of sugary drink if the dextrose isn't present already in the drink whenever...creatine is more about consistency not timing. As far as whey goes..just take it once or twice a day preferably post workout then whenever else you feel like putting it in. It's really that simple.

After a workout with Waxy Maize is ideal as insulin sensitivity is at it's peak. I've had great results off the loading phase 20 g per day for 5 days (taken on 2 divided doses) followed by 5 g per day to maintain your elevated Creatine levels.

the "loading phase" is one of the biggest scams and bullshit ever in the supplement industry, just stick to a basic brand and use 3-5 grams post workout on a consistent basis, no need at all to "load", you'll just end up with expensive diahhrea.

you will get the same effects from not loading, as you would from loading, but ita takes a while for it to build up in your system if you dont "load'. loading is a method of getting the benefits quicker.

and theres no reason to take it post workout. any time of the day, regardless with carbs without carbs, post training, pre training or at bed time or at breakfast.... you can take it whenever.

once you are "loaded", whether you do so by "loading", or by doing low dose for extended period of time (about a month or two) theres no reason to have everyday supplementation. your body recycles it very efficiently... all youd need is something like 5-10 grams every week and a half or so and youd be just as well off.
