New Training Regimen- Please critique
« on: October 01, 2008, 02:41:05 PM »
Yo guys, just started college and i'm trying to keep up with my lifting program. I've been lifting for 3 years, I would consider myself very experienced. I tend to shy away from cardio more than 1-2 times per week because i have a very fast metabolism and it's hard enough to put muscle on anyway.

I have tried a lot of different training splits in the past, all of which worked fine. But now i don't have as much free time as before, so im trying to condense my lifting into 2 weekly workouts.

Here's what i've been doing lately

BB/DB Bench Press- 6 sets x 15,12,8,6,5,5, 3(maybe)

Deadlift/Squat- 4-5 sets x 10,8,5,5,3

Lat Pulldown/Pullup- 4 sets- 12,10,8,5

Barbell/Cable/DB Row- 4 sets- 12,10,8,5

Barbell/DB/Smith Shoulder Press- 4-5 sets- 12,10,10,8,5

Arms superset (BB/DB curl superset w/ tricep extension/pushdown). 3 supersets to fry the arms

Abs, a little cardio maybe

Diet isn't an issue, because the cafeterias and student centers are chock full of protein rich foods.. thank god.

^^These are my typical sets and rep ranges... sometimes i use 5x5 for all the exercises to switch it up a bit.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated

i was thinking about when ill have to switch to a 2 day spilt when i take some in between semester classes. those are rough 4 days a week 3 hours each after work ill be shot. i do not really like the idea of doing to many bodyparts in one workout so i thought  rather than being on a weekly schedule why not train how i do regulary but more spread out.

schedule would probally look like this
sunday chest tris
mon-thurs off
friday back calves

sunday shoulders bis
friday legs

sunday chest tris
friday back calves
you get the point.

id rather hit each muscle group less frequently with the most productive routine than change to one i would not enjoy. my normal spilt would be
sunday chest tris
monday back calves
tuesday off
wensday shoulders bis
thursday legs abs
friday off
saturday off

Yeah, it's tough to work around my schedule and while my university has the best gyms I've ever seen... they aren't 24 hours.

The routine I'm using now (mentioned above) feels good and seems to be working, i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advice. I use the workout every 3-4 days

The only thing I would critique is that I feel going to 3 rep heavy on bench is not bad if you keep good form but 3 rep db press can get pretty dangerous IMO.
