Mark 6, 5. God could do no mighty work?
« on: December 17, 2009, 03:42:06 PM »
KVJ

1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

2And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

NLT:

4 Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.” 5 And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief.

NIV

1Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
"Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! 3Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.

4Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor." 5He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6And he was amazed at their lack of faith.

I think we discussed this before.  What happened here?  God's power is based on belief?

Yes, we beat that dead horse already.  You can do a search on the forum and find it.

What's the matter?  Ran out of topics to discuss so we must recycle the same old stuff and beat a dead horse again?

No.  Just thought I'd throw out some stuff to discuss, didn't quite remember the details.  It has been dead here lately.

It has been dead around here since Bush left office and Obama took over.  People used to come here a lot and blame Bush and his Christian faith for everything, starting wars, no federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, late term abortion ban, teaching creation in schools, jump starting hurricane Katrina, etc.  Even if the thread was not about Bush, it would eventually turn in to a Bush bashing and Christianity bashing fest.  You don't even see people come here and bash Muslims that much anymore.  It's politically incorrect to do that now.
