After watching some UFC Unleasshed......
« on: March 25, 2010, 07:04:32 AM »
I was wondering what is the criteria for being a judge for the fights, I watched alot of the fights on PPV originally and questioned some of the decisions, now after seeing the fights again and watching some on dvr, not really sure what the judges were watching, not saying disagree with all or even most of the decisions, but even the ones they got right the scores were crazy, does Dana have an influence on who judges, cause it seems if went to a decision, his boys won them all and by crazy scores, for the record have been watching MMA for years, not a newbie, just was curious

I personally think the judging sucks.  If I'm not mistaken, they are assigned by the commission.  The promotion, be it UFC, Strike Force, etc. has no say over it.  From what I understand, most or many of the judges have a boxing background and consequently have a poor understanding of the ground game.  Also, not sure why they don't score 10 10 rounds more often.  Oh well, it's the best we have for now.  Hopefully it will improve.

If Cecil Peeples is a judge you shouldn't agree with the decision.

Judges are usually boxing judges appointed by the state athletic commision.  The judges from Texas for example are pretty unknowledgable, at WEC 38 Garcia vs. Brown, the judges were Jason Garcia (a guy from the town that I live in that runs a funeral home and has never trained a day in his life but he throws money around and gets gigs, Lefty Barrera- an olympic medalist in boxing on the same team with Muhammad Ali, Lucy Rodgers-she was head of the South Texas amatuer boxing association in which I compete and coach in.)  They are classic examples of shitty striking oriented judges.  I think there should be some kinda classes and tests they should be required to take in order to be certified to judge in MMA across the board in all states in much the same way we have to take in order to coach in boxing.

AC's have the say on who the judges are.  Agree with People's....  Terrible judge.
