I've been working for an Australian mining giant, BHP Billiton, for the last number of years. I'm based in North America though. Despite what most people think, most of these mine jobs are on the surface. In addition, most of the underground work is automated and very safe. Huge misconceptions out there. It's not 1900. Safety standards are stringent. Companies have too much to lose if they don't keep safety the #1 priority. Most incidents are caused by inattentive employees that choose to blatantly ignore safety protocol. Fcuk I.T., natural resource sector is where it's at. Just my 2cents.
