So 2 years after he beat Spinks he was a completely different fighter when he fought Douglas.  Sounds like a lame excuse.  Tyson was strong in a weak decade of heavyweight fighters.  He couldn't survive in the best modern era of heavyweight boxing (the 90's).

You could be a different fighter after 6 month if you do not train properly and you do not have no more the heart for the sport. Yes Tyson was still young after signed with Don King and switched trainer but was not so disciplined in his training and lost all his hunger!

Wow. I know that was a highlight reel, but Im struck by the fact that when they got together, they just kept throwing blows rather than locking up like boxers do today.
Awesome.

By the time he fought Douglas he had a group of drug fueled hangers on, a corrupt team of yes men hanging off him and a slag of a woman messing with his already fragile mental state. He had taken the path of excess and theres only 1 place to go on that - down.

The best we have ever seen him was a man that would have blown Douglas out in an easy 3 rounds, a man that would have taken the repeated headbutts of a juiced Holyfield and fed him solid right hands until he was fast asleep and would have moved through Lewis' jab and taken him with bodyshots and uppercuts. Its just a shame his prime didnt last longer.

Awesome.

That is because the Holyfield and Bowe had the real warrior mentality(the same mentality you will find in bouts like Gatti vs Ward ,Arguello vs Pryor,Hagler vs Hearns), a quality that many of today boxers lack.
That mentality is what made this sport great in the past!

His father abandoned the family when Tyson was an infant.  His mother died when he was in his early teens:

"I never saw my mother happy with me and proud of me for doing something: She only knew me as being a wild kid running the streets, coming home with new clothes that she knew I didn't pay for. I never got a chance to talk to her or know about her. Professionally, it has no effect, but it's crushing emotionally and personally."

Saw Tyson training several times at Johnny Tocco's in Vegas in the summer of 1989. When he worked the 100+ pound heavy bag (that's a heavy heavy bag) (the bag with 6 rolls of duct tape wrapped around it) it was ridiculous. Horrifying.

People say, "Oh I'd get in the ring with him for a $1,000,000." You say that, but when it came time to actually step through the ropes, your mind would not allow you to do it. You could not get in the ring.

Tyson is overrated.  His biggest win is Michael Spinks.

He was destroyed by Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis with ease.

Ok... ::)

The Biggest names in fighting sports are Pacman and Mayweather! Boxing is 90% of MMA. Name me a MMA fight that didn't have boxing? Boxing as a sport can never be dead, long after MMA is over boxing will still be around! The days of Royce and Ken are over you can't win a figh without setting it up with boxing. Name a fighter in MMA that is more famous than Pacman and Mayweather. These guys make Millions. Name a MMA fighter that does that? MMA purse is pocket change to these guys!

I think Tyson at his best might win 1 out of 3 against Ali, remember Frazier did and Frazier wasnt as fast, strong or powerful as Tyson, the one i think Tyson would have real problems with is Foreman.

It's good thing there are endurance sports like pro boxing so little men like Tyson can hang out with the big boys and even be the superheavyweight champion.  ::)
Tyson was 180cms and 101kgs. Hardly a little man...

Not to disagree that Tyson wasnt a monster on the bag, but 100 pounds isnt a heavy heavy bag, maybe for mma, but for boxing its standard, 150+ pounds is a heavy heavy bag.
