Why are you encouraging the kid to waste his money? You should be talking him out of it.

To be sure no one on this forum will be talking me into or out of any decisions I make in life. Well, one person, but he only contributed to a decision I was already in the process of making. But he definitely helped steer me on the right path, and I tip my hat to him for taking the time to do it.

Where did you get your samsung and how much did you pay?

Sounds like exactly what I am going for. And the closer to 50" the better.

Got mine from Amazon.com...  with a coupon from dealnews.com I ended up paying $870

I have the Samsung Ln46B650 model Here is the exact one I got:  http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN46B650-46-Inch-1080p-Touch/dp/B001ULBP8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303888270&sr=8-1

Check: www.dealnews.com  and www.slickdeals.net  for coupons and good prices!

I will thank you, and thank you for your help.

Also is it just me or has slickdeals been lacking lately? I almost never seem to find deals that are all that great...Could just be my timing.

I found a big TV outside for free a few months ago. Works perfect. Didn't spend a dime.

If you're a working class sucker, just admit it and live on budget. That's what I did and now my bank account is growing well.

Big Ach obviously comes from a rich family and he seems a bit spoiled. He doesn't know what it's like to be in debt and earn every dime yourself. He doesn't know what the broke niggah struggle is all about.

I am a humble Christian, I hardly every buy anything. I do not own a watch and have the same jeans I bought three years ago. Try again...

Where to begin?  The unpaid debts?  Making excuses for the unpaid debts?  The bad credit?  The attempt to buy $100 earbuds?  If you have to tell people that you are a "humble Christian" then you are not. ::)

Get another credit card with a higher limit and spend at least a grand on a tv.

Life is too short to not have a nice tv.  When you're on your deathbed, you don't want to be thinking, "Man I wish I had had a great credit score like that overbearing gay dude on getbig."  You want to be thinking, "Man, I didn't get to travel/do much, but I got to see the world through a wonderful tv and also had some great times playing video games on my awesome tv."

That is exactly what he will be thinking, because if he had that great score he would have enjoyed frolicking on the beach (with muscle men in thongs) instead of watching it on a big screen.  Enjoy your TV . . . I'm off to Oahu--again!  8)

Realize that I am in school precisely so that I can do those things.

I am not going to be able to take multiple trips to exotic places just because I have a nice credit score.

Get real...

Don't give in to the credit score bullies, just keep racking up debt and then go off the grid... maybe on Oahu.

You're a poor college kid with bad credit buying expensive electronics? Hmm...

You're taking a lot of hard classes which take up a lot of time to study for to get those As. How are you going to take time to study and watch tv/play video games?

How are you getting student loans with bad credit?

By the way, you have shitty credit now and it's going to take another 2 years MINIMUM to rebuild it to a decent score ...after you pay off your shit.

Unless you're in a major that is in high demand right now with a more or less guaranteed job when you graduate WITH a halfway decent salary, you are fucked for the next few years as far as getting any sort of loan for a house, car...etc.

I always say that a high GPA and a college degree does not make a person smart... you are another example to support my point.

You have to realize that some people (collection agencies) are going to ALWAYS get the last laugh ... pay those fuckers.

don't listen to all these moralizing old men.  You're young, have fun!  By the time you're in your 50s like these old farts you'll have built your credit score back up.

To an audiophile $100 earbuds are a steal, I usually spend $3-400 on earbuds and headphones!

I know, I know-

I have not turned pro yet, naturally.

I have shitty credit.

So all of that aside, I want something above 42 inches, plasma preferably (I think)

Said TV will be used primarily for playing video games, watching sports in HD and movies in Blu-Ray.

Trying to keep price around $500

Advice appreciated.

And yes better credit would help, but I have cash so it's not an issue.

Every so often, you feel like you deserve a reward, so you buy yourself something. Of course you justify your purchase, that's what everyone does especially when they buy stuff they really cannot afford or actually could live without. And maybe the 42" plasma television will keep you entertained and save you spending money you don't have on going out partying.

Still....you have unpaid old credit. As others have already told you, spend you money on fixing your credit. Sure bill collectors are assholes, but you are an asshole too because you obviously didn't live up to your original credit agreement. You mention some of the old credit is nearly 8 years old. I assume this means you think it is alright to just let it go because it will be off your record anyway. Wrong! It will be off your credit report, but you should still honor your agreement to pay. Folks with and attitude like yours cost the rest of us money because retailers simply up the price of goods to cover these kinds of loses.

Several folks have posted advice to forget about the bad credit. In fact they suggest one rack up more bad credit if they can. Live in the moment, they say. When you are an old fart (like me) you'll have magically rebuilt your credit anyway. Interestingly enough, there are plenty of old folks with bad credit too.

Believe it or not, sooner or later, everyone pays the piper. One of the reasons the economy tanked is because people lived on borrowed money which they couldn't pay back. I know folks, young and old who borrowed against their homes in amounts which not only exceeded their ability to repay the loans but amount that exceeded the value of their property. Now they are either living in their cars, a shelter or if they are lucky some lack luster rental.

Pretty sure I do not need financial advice from you.

And FWIW I believe Cash is King in the new American Economy. I do not want to finance anything, especially not a TV, so my credit has nothing to do with this.

Cash is king if you want to get robbed via hyperinflation... :'(
