Trust me when I say that I am well aware of their myriad accomplishments ("social and educational" programs perhaps withstanding), but their downfall will be the dilution of what made them Germans. You cannot simultaneously give away the farm and expect to live off it.
For once, your point is well made and I would be remiss in not saying so. Perhaps there is hope for you?
That would be true if it wasn't so short-sighted historically. Germans are rising again. Slowly but rising. First, they pretty much did a good job at digesting 16 million unemployed and inefficient east germans. Took them less than twenty years. What other country could have done that? Germans have learnt their lessons from the past unlike other European countries or the US. And they no longer want to be treated like Europe's village idiot. With this crisis, they're starting to dictate their rules. France can go fuck itself (I live here so no bias). Germans are tired of the guilt but it doesn't necessarily escalade into jingoism. From where I see it, all praise.
