esophageal yeast infection from roids?
« on: February 24, 2012, 10:24:52 AM »
Running some test and mast since November and Dr. just diagnosed me with an esophageal yeast infection. He said it was a direct result of running roids?
Anyone ever heard of this before?
thanks

basically a fungus infection. Said it could have gotten in my blood from the needle. He said that roids weakens your immune system and the combination of that and higher sugar content in your blood makes you more prone to it.
He said it's very common with diabetes patients as well

Highly unlikely. First, there's no way steroids make your immune system so weak that you get infected with candida albicans (the yeast that does this). Second, very unlikely that you were colonized from injection.

The people that esophagitis from candida are AIDS patients, and cancer patients who are very sick and near the end. I'd be interested to see your CBC with a differential to see how your immune system is responding to this. Your doc is lazy if he is chalking this up to steroids he should make his differential broader and be looking for other reasons why this happened to you.

Hope this helps.

Oh and you should be fine with some nystatin and or an azole if its really bad.

Were you taking any antibiotics recently? That could've played into this. Certain ones kill the normal flora and allow shit like this to bloom.
