Bombs and arson attack near my house in past week

Last week army bomb disposal unit were at estate 200m from where I live defusing homemade bombs. Last night someone was killed in arson attack in same estate. It hasn't been released in media here yet but I know that it was same house and that son was making bombs (his dad who was wheelchair bound died in arson attack).

That is third time in a year I have had bombs defused near where I live/was (once was parents' house, someone had hidden them for later use in wooded area there).

Funny cos it is always just looked at as an inconvenience and not a terror threat here. I was chatting to cops who agreed it was a waste of time cordoning off area and that bombs were just aimed at criminals anyway.

Is it only here we realise most of these "threats" are just total bollox, as are the methods to stop them*?

I recently flew international and found security was not as tight as it was a few years ago, which is great. Getting through customs at O'Hare was a snap too. Customs at Frankfurt was still easier than customs at O'Hare. Guess Germany is less concerned about folks bringing stuff into their country.

They probably use profiling and common sense, which works. Either way TSA has been shown to be shit with 70% or so of weapons getting through in unannounced tests. Haven't been to USA since 2001 (Jan in NY), but we now have stupid rules like no liquids on board planes etc here as a result. Of course if you want to buy water after security it is €3 for 1 litre in airport and probably twice that on board.


I know Sept 11th was a massive tragedy but it showed that US security was flawed - it was weaker for internal flights than international - but while hijacked planes may make more news terrorists will think of new ways while you spend $8bn/year on TSA and multiples of that in lost productivity (and rage) with normal people being anally fist fucked before flying.

If I see someone with Muhammed or Al-anything in their name and a stupid bear I will search them more than a 70 year old white woman from France.

My point is no one here cares. We are used to it, Northern Irish people must laugh at it. When I was growing up every morning news was just about bombs going off, people being murdered or knee capped in troubles. If you travelled north it meant British army checkpoints with machine guns aimed at you everywhere.

If a fire alarm goes off here people roll eyes and carry on, I remember a nightclub in USA (Chicago?) people died in stampede after fire alarm in wake of 9/11.

Not really they mostly do drugs and training foreign terrorists now. Still some breakaways doing that though.

This is common here for drug wars. Shitty pipe bombs etc. Easier to make a bomb than buy a gun.
