They do it beacuse they had a dream when they were in college training to be a teacher, to become a type of saviour to these kids, helping them to be someone, being a role model etc. When they start teaching and realise its not what they thought, they seduce a student as it gives them the saviour complex they desire, in a different, sexual form. Like they believe that they are giving this 15/16/17 boy something he couldn't get without them.

I agree to some extent...some women do have that "savior complex". But, I think the many of these teachers don't have that imaginary ethical/moral line that they will not cross...it's blurred or not there.

Our culture is focused on youth. The lines have become blurred. Thirty year old men are living at home with their parents. Some might argue that men have always found younger women attractive and pursued them but this is different. Men are biologically attracted to fertility. From a reproductive stand point women become less valuable as they age. The problem with women seeking out the affection of teenagers is a cultural one.

It's the contradiction that's troubling. We laugh and applaud a male who sleeps with a teacher but make a victim out of female who does the same. It's in a mans nature to feel protective toward the females of his tribe and the objection to a male teacher/female student affair is understandable in that context. There is a strong instinctual drive to protect the innocence and virtue of a virginal young maiden. But this attitude is just a throw back to the archaic idea that teenage girls are inherently nonsexual and to dumb and naive to realize what they doing. This is also and odd position to take considering the prevailing wisdom that women mature faster emotionally than men.
