In the Cleveland debate, Donald Trump refused to commit to support whomever the Republican Party nominates in 2016.

Trump would be wise to maintain his freedom of action.

For there is a plot afoot in the Washington Post Conservative Club to purge Trump from the Republican Party before the primaries begin.

“A political party has a right to … secure its borders,” asserts the Post’s George Will, “a duty to exclude interlopers.” Will wants The Donald “excommunicated” and locked out of all GOP debates until he kneels and takes a loyalty oath to the nominee.

“Marginalizing Trump” carries no risk of “alienating a substantial Republican cohort,” Will assures us, for these “Trumpites” are neither Republicans nor conservatives. Better off without such trash.

The Post’s Michael Gerson says “establishment Republicans” must “make clear that [Trump] has moved beyond the boundaries of serious and civil discourse.” He loathes the Trumpites as much as Will.

Trump’s followers are “xenophobic,” Gerson tells CNN. They have a “resentment of outsiders, of Mexico, of China, and immigrants. That’s more like a European right-wing party, a UKIP or a National Front in France. Republicans can’t incorporate that.”

But if the GOP has no room for Trump’s followers, it has no future. For there simply aren’t that many chamber-of-commerce and country-club Republicans.

Trump has been more refined and speaking with a much softer tone as of late.

Landing down in the state fair in a helicopter then giving kids free rides in it was like something out of a super hero comic book.

Even one of the kids asked him "Mr. Trump, are you Batman?" To which he replied "Yes I am Batman"

Now he is linking up with Jeff Sessions and coming up with a more crisp and concise plan on Immigration.

Say what you will about Trump but he has looked really good over the past week and will be in it for a while.

I saw that....good P.R. move to give those kids rides on his helocopter.....and you are right he is getting more refined....He is taking on his rivals head-on and calling out his rivals BY NAME which is very unusual in this type of race...but thats what makes him so exciting

Good point.....and getting called out by name means the other candidates have to answer to his criticsms...which they often seem unprepared for..politicians are used to dancing around issues and spinning......Trump calling them out and their having to answer takes them out of that comfort zone

i said it since february.... jeb doesn't want it.  He was retired for almost a decade, smoking pot and enjoying daquiris, enjoying the beach life.  Everyone around him pushed him into it.  While Dubya did coke - something to make one more ambitious - Jeb admits he was a heavy pothead for over half his life.  That takes its toll - how many people do you know who used pot for 20+ years, made their $20 million, and still want one of the hardest jobs on earth?

I'll dig for it.  I read it someplace a while back and Jeb being my gov formerly, i watch news about him closely.  Said he used pot from early high school into his late 20s.  Granted, HALF his life would be an exaggeration - unless you count the last almost decade he's been out of power, a millionaire on the FL beach, where his mental acumen dropped substantially.  My belief is that he's been blazing a bit in retirement, but that's just a guess.
