Dont know much about american law, but if he beat her has been reported, would this get her off any potential charges as she can claim she was scared etc?

Mitigating factor.  She's getting charged.  They are just not charging her yet because they want her to talk more.

I doubt she'll do any time. She'll just say when she really lawyers up that she was beaten and he said she'll kill her etc. She'll disappear into the witness protection program and probably re-marry a Getbigger...

Nah, she will. Battered woman's syndrome is rarely accepted, mitigating factor. Fed and Fed prosecutors want and need to make an example out of her and his friends. And they will! She's telling them things so they can corroborate what they uncover with what she said. Any slip ups in her story and she's screwed even more.
