There are many things that exist and just cause people have never seen them does not change that,I’m sure there is. 30’-40’ anaconda and a 30’ croc even though the experts haven’t seen them.So I believe in a 40’ shark definitely,ocean is huge and prob holds bigger sharks than that.

Megalodon is like a Giant Great White, it's in the same family. And it existed in warm waters. And ate large fast moving prey. It was large and fast moving. Deep Sea Waters are not warm, and most prey are built differently due to the immense pressure, and they are not fast moving, for the most part.

Why are sperm whales called sperm whales?

Much of the bulk of a sperm whale's enormous head is taken up by a barrel-shaped organ called the case. Inside the case is a clear, liquid oil that when cooled, hardens to resemble white paraffin. Because whalers thought this stuff looked like whale sperm, they called it spermaceti and named the animal a sperm whale.

I still maintain that the whale eating "seamen" is funnier.  Whether you do depends upon how sophomoric your sense of humor is.  Mine tends to be absolutely so.
