I had chickens for years. Interesting creatures and smarter than people think. At one point I got some young fighting stock, English bantams. They were free roaming and nested at night in a big bush. I heard a commotion, looked out and saw a big hawk fly down and enter the bush, a few seconds later there was a loud squawking and the little bantam rooster chased the much larger hawk out of the bush and was jumping up in the air and kicking the crap out of the hawk. One night the hen was eaten by a coyote and the rooster was smart enough to find a better night time spot. I couldn't find him until I looked up and spied him about 30 feet up in a eucalyptis tree. Don't know how he got up that far. Eventually a coyote got him too.He was too ballsy for his own good.
