The title of this thread brought back vivid memories of this thread, by Darren Avey, posted during Getbig's Ironage:

Also, great to see that Ironage photo of Ironage bodybuilder Frank Richard.

I messaged him through YouTube back in 2008.  He was 63 at the time, and I seem to recall him being up in weight - maybe around 260-lb.  Obviously not conditioned as he once was, but I got the impression talking to him that he was still lifting, and still carrying decent size [with age-adjusted body fat levels].

I think Richard got into an industrial accident or was mugged, or both.  He overcame a lot.

Richard will be 75 this year!  Pretty good lifespan, even if he died today.  He seemed in good health when I talked to him - but that was over a decade ago.

Why some steroid users get that moon face and others don't is a mystery.  High cortisone levels?

Good question.  Do you remember the "Battle for the Gold" documentary from 1988?  I think it was either that documentary or another one from the same time period that was hosted by Tom Platz, and his cheeks looked normal.  Meanwhile, at his peak [in terms of cheek mass]:

used to see him around a lot, from my hometown.

Overcame a lot of adversity, bad accident working on overhead power lines, almost lost his foot among other breaks, then got attacked in a restaurant, tried to smash his arm up with a fire extinguisher, tore his bicep off at the elbow

I think it's guys with large massaters and small cheek bones, then the extra water held exaggerates the jaws even more compared the non existent cheekbones, forming that inverted angle from jaw to cheekbone.

Some natural legends had the "moon face" too. Total mystery, indeed.

Lol!

Gene Wilder on gear - good observation.  Hmm...I sometimes wonder why more actors didn't use gear.  Looks matter a lot in Hollywood, and you'd think they would have been aware of that.  Maybe being busy memorizing scripts and working on movies inhibits some actors from being overly committed to a fitness program.

Ha!
Thanks!

Nowadays they do use it more and more to look good....
And they invest less in acting skills.

What retention from estro...

As to why some guys get it bad and others don't, some guys would convert more androgens to estro because their bodies make more aromatose enzymes and/or they don't take an aromatose inhibitor.

They don't need it, with a well placed light/shadows and some nice angles they can make any small guy look big in screen.....

Look at that pussy Chunum Tatum or mark Wahlberg they have fuck all muscle.

I think it's Cushing syndrome from too much cortisone which results in a moon face. Maybe steroids messes up the pituitary gland which messes up more hormones than we thought.
