This is true.  It seemed the entire bullet culture didn't really pop off until Tupac and Biggie started beefing.  Still some pioneers around though.  Kurtis Blow, Doug E Fresh, EPMD, KRS-One, Kool Moe Dee, are still around.... Prince Markie Dee made it until Feb of this year (surprisingly).

I just checked. He died one day before what would have been his 53rd birthday.
