You are mostly correct.

I just returned from two weeks in Japan two days ago.  It was in 2018 when I was there last.  One thing that stands out, hasn't changed and never fails to amaze people is that in the Shinjuku area, every twenty minutes the train station just disgorges people from the bowels of the station onto the street.  (nearly all train stations do this, but Shinjuku is the biggest crowd).  It really looks like you kicked a giant ant bed and the ants come swarming out.

The amount of people crammed into this area is mind boggling.  NYC crowds ain't got shit on these people.
