The clean and press was a fantastic exercise now very seldom seen.  It go to the point where guys were leaning back to turn it into a standing incline bench. Also some lifts were passed with a little snap of the knees. With modern electronic means the Weightlifting judges could eliminate excessive lean back but that would prove to be too involved in competitions. I could be happy watching Olympic lifting meets with just the clean and jerk eliminating the snatch.

I agree. They could even have 3 lifts again like powerlifting. Olympic weightlifting is the most boring of all strength sports. Almost unwatchable.

Patera almost certainly would have won the gold medal had he not had a shoulder injury. He settled for a bronze which screwed up his "strongest man in the world" claim he was going to use in wrestling.

Ken and I traded rum and cokes for hours, he was impressed I kept up with him. He actually tapped out first.
