Holding the parents or guardians responsible for their children's truancy is nothing new. But, jailing them is as best as I know.
The law in Tennessee goes so far as to include legal action being made against the parent(s).
California Penal Code § 270.1 PC makes it a crime for parents or guardians to fail to provide reasonable supervision and enforcement of their child's school attendance.
In Texas some parents could face criminal penalties for not making their children go to school.
Kentucky's penal code states Any parent, guardian, or custodian who intentionally fails to comply with the requirements of KRS 159.010 to 159.170 (Compulsory education laws), shall be fined one hundred dollars ($100) for the first offense, and two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for the second offense. Each subsequent offense shall be classified as a Class B misdemeanor.
Under Oregon law, eight unexcused one-half day absences in any four-week period during the school year constitutes truancy. Parents who fail to ensure compliance can face a maximum $500 fine.
