Not quite there yet. It’s still easier to use a proper 3D tool that lets you create exactly what you want - but there's a steep learning curve. AI-generated images often rely on faked shadows and reflections — they might look convincing at first glance, but they’re nowhere near the precision and realism of dedicated 3D raytracing engines. And more often than not, they still have that unmistakable “AI slop” look — odd details, inconsistent lighting, and subtle artifacts that give them away.

AI image generation is also currently limited by lower resolutions, and many models output in portrait aspect ratios instead of 16:9 at 4K. With traditional 3D software, you can produce 4K or even 8K animations at 120 FPS or higher. Of course, you can upscale an AI-generated video from 30 FPS to 60 or 120 FPS using tools like Topaz Video AI.

Over time, AI image and video generation will likely close this gap — but right now, it’s still far behind and often looks like AI slop compared to what proper 3D rendering tools can achieve.

Im confused, are we talking about porn still or AI, 3d renderwhat?

All of it. In a proper 3D environment with a good raytracer, you can set up cameras, lighting, and materials, then freely rotate around your scene. Everything stays consistent — the lighting, reflections, and shadows. You can fine-tune every detail: adjust the camera height, rotate the character 10 degrees, tilt the head slightly, move the car a few feet — whatever you need.

AI image generation, on the other hand, is still text-based. You have to prompt it for each image, and it struggles with maintaining consistency between shots — especially if you want the same subject from different angles, like from behind or below. The shadows and reflections are nowhere near as accurate or reliable as those from a proper 3D raytracing engine.

That said, it’s improving quickly, and I’m sure it’ll get much better over time.

Alright
I’ve worked with a variety of 3D tools — 3ds Max, Blender, DAZ 3D, iClone, Cinema 4D, and many others. There’s also Maya, Softimage, Rhino 3D, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit — the list goes on.

Here’s a video showing someone creating an ocean scene in 3ds Max using the V-Ray raytracing engine. There are many raytracing engines out there — V-Ray, Arnold, Nvidia Iray, Mental Ray, Redshift, Cycles, Corona, and more. I primarily use V-Ray and Nvidia Iray.
