Guy, did you have a hard time learning the language?

Hey Mate!

I had no problem understudying people but I cannot say the same about people understanding me. I was brought up on the street more or less so I had a very small vocabulary and spoke more slang than anything else. E. G I would say Eva rather either and things like that. I thought my name was "what" for a 2 years as everyone would say "what" when I was speaking to them LOL. The worst was asking for some ones name on the phone as they could not understand me at all. That was so frustrating. I would honestly say The presidents name is George Bush and what's is your name or my favorite. The Indians called the Chief the chief because that was his name. Then I would say what is your name. My friends would laugh there asses of at me as I would get so frustrated. Craig Titus would always get a kick out of that! It has made me a lot more tolerant of people that have English as a second language now. I study new words to add to my vocabulary each day and that has really helped me increase my vocabulary. I am learning Japanese as my wife is Japanese and that is always a challenge. Hope all is well for you Buddy!

Thanks Mate! I have learnt so much from reading various books from self help, Biographies, Motivational books, physiology you name it!. I actually had one of my Mates from Australia send me over 50 books I had already read back home which were in storage as I wanted to re read them. It's great as my little girl loves to read which is a real blessing. I read her Winnie the Pooh and the Cat in the hat as they are her favorites at present. All the best to you Buddy!

Both are great books, and you'll be remembering them your whole life. I even re-read them every so often to make sure I don't take life too seriously. One of my favourites, if you haven't gotten hold of it already, is Graham's 'The Wind in the Willows' - truly a classic, and you and your daughter can decide which one of the creatures you are.  :) A newer, more scarier one , is Gaiman's 'Coraline.' She'll love this one, and I think they are making a movie of it. Best, and take care.

Guy,

Congratulations.

A couple of quickies:

1. You said you have been residing here in the US since '98, correct? How did you stay here legally during that period? US Green Card? If so, how did you get your Green Card? Lottery? Marriage?

2. How did you go about becoming a US citizen? How long did it take and how complicated was it?

I'm asking these because I know someone who lives here in the US, is an Aussie, has a Green Card [married to an American girl] and - since I told him about your "dream come true" story - he is intersted in pursuing the same route [ie: dual citizenship]as you.

I was actually born in Penrith Hospital and lived at the entrance to the Penrith Quarry with my grand parents for a while. I followed the South Sydney Rabbits and was blessed to be freinds with and train with quite a few of the guys like Mario Fenech, Les Davidson and Ian Roberts. They took me under their wing and always looked out for me. Those were some great times!

I arrived in Marh of 98. I was initially here as I was pending for a green card under the category of "a person of Extraordinary ability" that is what they termed it not me LOL ) I was the Australian Champion and had placed second at the World Championships and various magazines and such within the industry along with various sponsors and endorsements helped support my case

2. How did you go about becoming a US citizen? How long did it take and how complicated was it? I believe it was approx. 5-6 years from the time I received my green card till I was eligible to start the process of obtaining my Citizenship. I had to go through quite a bit of paper work and take a written and oral test which I thankfully passed and then was awarded my Citizenship last month at a big ceremony. I used an attorney to do everything as the paper work was way over my head. It was more time consuming process than anything else.

I'm asking these because I know someone who lives here in the US, is an Aussie, has a Green Card [married to an American girl] and - since I told him about your "dream come true" story - he is intersted in pursuing the same route [ie: dual citizenship]as you.
I would suggest talking with an attorney. If you are Australian you can have dual Citizenship. I believe it is a lot easier through being married to an American Citizen. they will have to fill out paper work and take the same test but it will be quicker from what I know. Please give your mate my best wishes on receiving his Citizenship. Being on a green card is cool but you have to be very careful not to get into any trouble such as fighting or even being caught smoking Weed as they can deport you due to those things very easily. I was always careful to avoid trouble the best I could till I was a citizen. Now I have matured and don't have to worry about getting in trouble for stupid things these days LOL. Hope this helps. All the best!

Yeah Ian liked the boys, the smaller the better it seemed. He was always cool with me. He was a GOOD fighter! He had some really heavy hands so it was funny being so big and such a hard man yet he liked the young Boys. I will never forget sitting with him in the Players section at Redfern Oval when he was out injured and he took me into the change rooms after the game and hung out with the guys. Phil Blake, David Boyle, Craig Coleman and the crew. That is a day I will always remember I was so stoked as I was huge fan of the game back then. I used to sit at home with all my South Sydney gear on with a flag a beanie a scarf socks shorts you name it I had it LOL. I would even have a a tape that played Glory Glory to South Sydney when they would score a try or win. Man I was a funny Kid LOL. Ian's sister was SMOKING back in the day. I was to young to try my luck with her but she was Beautiful. When did Ian get in trouble for the assault Mate? and what happened! He never backed down from people that would punk him at an Old gym in Coogee called Giles Gym. That gym had so many great players training their. Les was always cool with me as was Mario. Les was a funny guy and one tough man. They had some of the older legends like Gary Steven training there and I also lived across the Road from Darrell Bampton and hung out with his son! You brought back some good memoires. I have at least 4 autograph books back home in storage with people like Chive Churchill just before he died, Steve Mortimer and so many more. My favorite game ever was the Grand Final between Canberra and Balmain when Chicka Ferguson scored from a bomb after Laurie Daley passed him the ball and Mal Meninga kicked the winning goal. I cannot wait to re watch that bad boy when I go back home as I have it in storage. All the best and thanks for the memories. It is so weird you mentioned that as my mate is sending me all my Biograpjy such as Ray Price Mr. Perputual Motion, Peter Sterling, Wayne Peare, Greg Alexnader who I am sure you know, Blocker Steve Roach, Mark Geyer and a tone more. Take care
