Anti-Depressants
« on: July 22, 2006, 07:27:09 PM »
For the last six months I have been working out (weights, punching bag along with watching my diet) and have lost twenty pounds by doing so.  My problem is that for a few years now I have been on anti- depressants ,(which are still not an option to kick, and it is  common knowledge that weight gain is a regular side effect) and despite my productive loss so far I am now at a stand still and needing to shed about fifteen more. The belly is killer! Along with my workout I as well take ultra ripped and whey protien shakes. My question is how do I go about getting the results desired and whether there is anyone in the same situation or knew of someone with a similiar experiance who found away around this subject at hand. Any feedback would be great.

Your body cannot gain weight if it is using more cals than you are taking in. The antidepressants may make it easier for you to gain weight. But it does not make you gain weight with no calories to do so. If you want it bad enough cut the cals and tighten up your diet. You need to eat less since you can gain weight easier now. You need to create a deficit of calories while keeping your protein high to keep as much muscle as you can.

there are many different types of anti-depressants, and people react differently to them.  If you don't like the side effects of one, have your doctor switch you to another.

Remeron is one that should not interfer with your workouts, your diet, or sex drive.  Also great for insomnia.

If you are getting your life in order (in the gym).  Perhaps you could lower the dosage and try some herbal supplements/vitamins/multi, etc.  Yeah, it's not exactly the same, but if you have your health in tip-top shape - these things may be enough to keep you mentally in a good state.

I though weight training was suppose to do the same thing as a anti depressant?  With the rise in test and all?  Maybe you don't need it anymore?

stay on the ADs dude. you cant weight train if you are dead.

screw the peeps here who dont know shite and are telling you to get off them, or use herbal replacements....

if push comes to shove, its the weight training that should go. being depressed is one of the worst afflictions you can have.

im with the poster here who recommended the calorific deficit and determination. Thats all that works.

BTW test will affect your hormonal system and the way that the receptors in your brain work also. If you go that route then be prepared to have to try and unravel the mysteries of how they affect you and how ADs work on your ''new'' brain chemistry.
