YMCA GYM
« on: September 09, 2006, 07:18:03 PM »
I am currently training at a YMCA gym and it is not run that well. I've got a mate who works there and they have big restrictions on personal training and basically get trated like shit, they have just opened a new YMCA across town and it got all the old gear and the place is done on the cheap, my mate said it had a 0$ budget. It seems like it is run like a mickey mouse outfit. I was wondering if all YMCA's are run poorly??

I worked out at a YMCA for about a year, my wife worked there and we got free memberships.  It was not bad..funny thing was I worked out at a ton of gyms, small local ones, powerhouses, golds you name it and never locked my stuff up.  2 months into the YMCA my wallet was gone through..I don't carry cash so nothing was missing and i figured it was a bunch of kids that didn't know what to do with credit cards....I always lock my stuff up now.

I was training at the YMCA for about 4 years. Thats where I made the best progress. I just ignored the gossip and focused on my workout.

Every YMCA is different as they are non-profit and depend a lot on the community to give back.  When I lived in WI, the Y I lifted at had the all the weights in the basement with the gym lighting that made you look huge.  Dungeon like - awesome atmosphere!  They then built a new one acoss town and it had (and I'm not exagerating here):

--All new weights and equipment (obviously)
--Indoor basketball courts
--Indoor Soccer Field
--Indoor Hockey rink
--Indoor pools with waterslides (and maybe wave pool - can't remember)
--Rehab area
--Outdoor fields
--Outdoor paths
--Plus all brand new lockers, clean facility, and the other stuff that comes with being new...

This is because the community donated a ton of land and $.  There isn't a Golds for 40 miles.  ;D
