Perhaps, but according to the 'tax experts', the IRS would lay claim to a lump of those earnings as well.  Damn them!

Geeze...  qualifying a space flight as "income" seems a bit far-fetched.  It would seem that Oracle could legally redefine the prize somehow so it wouldn't be taxable, but what do I know.

I agree. It's certainly a drop in the bucket for them, ...and far less than the value of the publicity they got from this.
