I think there are a couple of problems.
First off if people who are into the "sport" are complaining about how bad the physiques look then what about American Joe who doesn't know beans about it.
Secondly I think bodybuilding should capitalize on the truth that "SEX SELLS". You guys think it is just homos that like to see half naked muscular men all oiled up. Hello! That's what women go to strip clubs and to Chippendales for (Even though a LOT of those guys are gay)
We have a couple of competitors at my gym and they ALWAYS get a lot of attention from the female persuasion. Some have even attended the shows. So this ain't all about gay boys. I think that argument is null and void.
There is something wrong with the physiques onstage. That is the biggest problem I see.
I agree and their has been a huge boom of pro pro FIGURE shows as a result. The number of pro figure events held with either NPC shows or as part of an IFBB pro event are in the higher numbers than pro bodybuilding now.
The men's show should reward guys like Dexter, Darrem and Ronnie Rockell.
David Henry is the ideal kind of physique that is massive but has ideal shape and balance.
Sheer mass beyond what is needed to look muscular should not be considered the ideal by the IFBB pro judges.
Look at how great Ronnie looked at 256!
Drug testing would not be an issue if freakish mass were not an advantage to winning shows.
