if you are not strong enough to pick the dumbells off the ground yourself get them into position and press them then you are not srong enough to use them properly.

Following that thinking, if you're not strong enough to pick up and rest a barbell behind the neck, you can't squat it. ::)

wrong its about being able to control and have control over the weight you are using.

i.e if you arent strong enough to squat 315 with reasonable control and to good depth then dont use 315 etc.

I agree with the use of the dumbbell spotters after a certain point. When you have powerlifters and strongmen using 150lbs + dumbbells it becomes a pain in the ass to position, spot, and balance them both for the lifter and the spotter. These will save time and energy that he can use to actually use to make the lift.

It's an interesting but not absolutely necessary piece of equipment, sorta like say, bumper plates.
